BT ends 2009 as top employer for diversity

BT has just scooped joint-first place from the Employers Forum on Disability for meeting its disability benchmark, meaning the telecoms company ends the year having gained first place for diversity from five leading benchmarkers.
Caroline Waters, BT's director of people and policy and HR director (pictured), said she was "delighted" with the achievement, calling 2009 one of her most proudest ever.
She said: "It is vital for the future success of our business that we build a balanced and productive workforce. That's why we will continue to set the benchmark for diversity and look forward to achieving even more in 2010."
In May, Opportunity Now awarded BT first place in its benchmark as well as naming it winner of the ‘Premier Employer' award. In June, Race for Opportunity gave it top ranking for the transparency, measurement and monitoring of ethnic minorities in the workplace. In August, BT was recognised by The International Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce in its Equality Index as ‘the most gay-friendly organisation in the world'. In September, BT won the International Innovative Employer Award, presented by The American Association of Retired Persons. Each year this award is given to a non-US based employer that has implemented innovative practices in the workplace for employees aged over 50.
